In this series, I tried experimented with new effects on picmonkey, and attempted to use more thought provoking phrases and lines in my pictures. Many of the lines I have thought of myself, but I have also used lines from Slug from Atmosphere, MF Doom, and Madlib. I attempted to directly contrast or correspond my photos with the phrases or lyrics. I attempted to use a tripod and more self timers during this series draft, but I also just took many of my photos with my own hands, which Nan Goldin also believes is very effective.

  1. I think you did a great job of using provocative and moody colors to create evocative compositions. These photos seem very personal and gives me a sense that I'm looking through a keyhole into your soul.

  2. Great series. i think that your photos improved a lot form your last series. i think that the positioning of your face at different angles creates a better perspective

  3. i like how you managed to make this series different then the last one. I feel like its really easy to be repetitive with self portraits with text but you did a great job of keeping variety in the subject, composition, editing and test. good job marcus!

  4. I really like what you did with this series and i think theyre better than the last series. the effects really work in some of them but the font is pretty crappy and downgrades them a bit, making them feel like those really corny hipster pictures (usually with some model standing in a field) that have a vintage tint and something written across it in helvetica. maybe you were trying to say that there is no standard for art, or perhaps meaning is not what is said but what is taken away. regardless, i like the last three and the first one a lot; the second ones a little weird

  5. I really like your progress from the first draft in this series exploring various angles and perspectives when capturing self-portraits. I think you do a great job matching your facial expressions with a specific phrase alluding to a great meaning. Your final edits and experimentation with color helps create a more equivocal set that is left open for the viewers interpretation.

  6. I like your use of lyrics. It adds a clear narrative to your photos and I think overall go well with your facial expressions. I also really think you did a good job processing the photos and the colors pop well.
